The age-old causality dilemma was answered this Easter morning: we spotted the lovely ducks on the sidewalk as we were leaving for an egg hunt at the house of one of Olivia’s friends. In my eagerness to get out the door, I forgot to bring along Olivia’s Easter basket, but my haste may have not been for waste: the carrying capacity of the bag she was lent far exceeded those of her friends’ baskets. (To think: I was able to instill the virtue of greed and value of being disorganized in one short hour – not bad for a lazy Sunday.)
Being unorganized is a family trait: these are but a few of the items at the foot of Olivia’s bed. (The pile has grown so tall in recent days that the it's now up to the knee of her bed.) Among the pile: various books, a zebra purse, a feather boa, some chapstick, and, my favorite item of the bunch, a My Little Pony in a sandwich bag.
Excuse me for having High School Musical on the brain (see recent references here, here, here, and here): its saccharine songs and cheery cast of characters have set up camp in our daughter’s life, which means that, by the transitive property of equality, those things have become rooted in our lives as well.
Olivia and I were watching some HSM-related YouTube videos on my laptop yesterday when we came across someone’s JibJab creation featuring Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. A few mouse clicks and graphic edits later, we were able to make the same video, this time with Olivia and A.J. as the leads.
I could have given this to Olivia as a birthday gift – it thrilled her to no end to see herself starring as Gabriella on the silver slivered screen. And today, on A.J.’s actual birthday, I present to him and the world their video. Enjoy…
Extreme sleep deprivation may have something to do with my maudlin state, but I have to think that the sweetness that’s captured in these pictures of my kids – good God, I’m getting weepy just typing “my kids” – would be enough to commence the waterworks.
Olivia went to school this morning knowing that her baby brother had arrived in the world, and that she would get to meet him right after lunch. These are from their first encounter.
